Strange Numbers Found in Particle Collisions
Particle colliders continue to accelerate particles at higher and higher speeds breaking them into smaller and smaller pieces. The collisions are described using Feynman diagrams which have become ever more intricate and time intensive to solve. To speed things up mathematicians are utilizing the unexpected correspondence between the numbers calculated from Feynman diagrams and those from the branch of mathematics known as algebraic geometry.
