Cassini, Voyager Missions Suggest New Picture of Sun’s Interaction with Galaxy
Science text books tell us that the heliosphere surrounding our solar system extends from the Sun encompassing the Earth, and our fellow planets, with a comet like tail. However, this is only one of two theories – and it now seems like the other theory was correct all along!
The Cassini mission and Voyager spacecraft have been collecting data on the magnetic field surrounding our Solar system and the data suggests that we are inside a huge bubble. This new information has huge implications on our understanding of how the interstellar medium interacts with the Suns magnetic field – who knows what other insights it will reveal.
