‘Star in a Jar’ Fusion Reactor Works and Promises Infinite Energy

Nuclear fusion is making progress in the form of the latest ‘stellarator’ Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X). The brief is to be able to heat and sustain a hot gas to stellar temperatures creating a plasma - thus dubbed the ‘Star in a Jar’. Like the more familiar Tokamak it sustains a nuclear fusion reaction by confining the hot plasma with a magnetic field in the shape of a donut, but the stellarator adds an extra twist!
